HUMMUS is a follow-up to Humans Making Music, which was conducted in 2012. One of the aim of HUMMUS is to study the association between individual characteristics, such as personality, aptitude, interest, and sensitivity to reward, and expertise in music and sports performance, as well as cultural engagement. Another aim was to study the associations between cultural engagement, well-being and health. Genetic data collected within STAGE is used to study the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors in these associations.

Data collection for HUMMUS was carried out by the Swedish Twin Registry during 2022 and 2023. It targeted twins aged 37–63 years (born 1959-1985), both twin pairs and individual twins, where at least one individual had participated in STAGE. The study cohort included both monozygotic and dizygotic twins, regardless of sex combination. In total, approximately 28,800 individuals were contacted, of whom about 9,540 participated, corresponding to a response rate of 33%.

Participants were asked to complete a web-based questionnaire covering topics such as music and sports engagement, creativity, well-being, and personality.

The following question areas are included:

ACIPS - Anticipatory and Consummatory Interpersonal Pleasure Scale
BIS/BAS - Behavioral Activation and Behavioral Inhibition Scales
BMRS - Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire
BFI - Big Five Inventory, in general and during musical or professional practice
CAQ - Creative Achievement Questionnaire
Cultural engagement
Divergent thinking
Engagement in sports
Musical childhood environment
NPI - Narcissistic Personality Inventory
Primals Inventory (62 items)
Profession
SFPQ - Swedish Flow Proneness Questionnaire, during sports practice
Synesthesia
TROSCI - Trait Robustness of Self-Confidence Inventory
UCLA - loneliness scale (4 items)
Weight and height

ACIPS - Anticipatory and Consummatory Interpersonal Pleasure Scale
BIS/BAS - Behavioral Activation and Behavioral Inhibition Scales
BMRS - Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire
CAQ - Creative Achievement Questionnaire
Divergent tänkande
Idrottsligt engagemang
Kulturellt engagemang
Musikalisk barndomsmiljö
NPI - Narcissistic Personality Inventory
SFPQ - Swedish Flow Proneness Questionnaire: flow under idrottsaktiviteter
Synestesi
TROSCI - Trait Robustness of Self-Confidence Inventory: självförtroende
UCLA – ensamhetskala, 4 frågor
Uppfattningar om världen (Primals), 62 frågor
