      <r:Content xml:lang="sv">Malmö Förebyggande Medicin är en kohortstudie som startade i början av 1970-talet som en undersökning av en medelålders befolkning i Malmö. Personer födda i Malmö och fortfarande bosatta i staden inviterades till en medicinsk undersökning med frågeformulär och blodprovstagning. Alla män från vissa födelsekohorter (1921-1949) och något senare inviterades även kvinnor (födda 1926-1949). Totalt deltog 22444 män och 10902 kvinnor i perioden 1974-1992. Under uppföljningen 2002-2006 återundersöktes 17284 personer.

Syfte:
1. Att kartlägga kardiovaskulära riskfaktorer och alkoholmissbruk I den lokala befolkningen, och att erbjuda individer under risk ett interventionsprogram;

 2. Att använda DNA från uppföljningen för analys av genetisk risk för typ 2 diabetes, kardiovaskulär sjukdom och vissa typer cancer.</r:Content>
      <r:Content xml:lang="en">The MPP was started in the early 70's as a screening survey in the middle-aged population of Malmö, the third largest city of Sweden. Subjects born in Malmö and residents of the city were invited for a clinical examination, questionnaire and blood sampling. In all 22,444 men and 10,902 women participated during the period 1974-1992. During a later follow-up, the MPP-Re-examination (MPP-RES) in all 17,284 of the original screenes attended in 2002-2006.

Purpose:
1. To screen for cardiovascular risk-factors and alcohol abuse in the local population, and to offer intervention to subjects at risk;

 2. To use DNA (at MPP-RES) for analyses of genetic risks of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as some cancers.</r:Content>
