      <r:Content xml:lang="sv">LifeGene är en prospektiv kohortstudie med longitudinella uppföljningar, vars mål är att samla in och tillgängliggöra data och prover från 250 000 svenskar. Bakom LifeGene står sex svenska universitet med sina medicinska fakulteter. Karolinska Institutet är värd för projektet och har en ledande och koordinerande funktion. De övriga medverkande universiteten är: Lunds universitet, Göteborgs universitet, Linköpings universitet, Uppsala universitet och Umeå universitet.

Deltagarna i LifeGene får svara på en omfattande webbaserad enkät som täcker ett brett spektrum av hälsa och hälsorelaterade åtgärder, symtom, livsstil och miljöexponeringar. Vid ett LifeGene Testcenter mäts bland annat deltagarnas längd, vikt, blodtryck, fettfördelning i kroppen (BMI) och lungfunktion. Dessutom lämnas blod- och urinprov.

Rekrytering sker antingen via brevutskick (vuxna i åldern 18-50 år) i områden nära LifeGene testcenter (hittills i Alingsås, Stockholm och Umeå), genom inbjudan av en LifeGene deltagare, eller genom spontan självregistrering. Vuxna deltagare kan bjuda in sina barn eller andra hushållsmedlemmar att delta.

      <r:Content xml:lang="en">LifeGene is a prospective cohort study with longitudinal follow-up, the goal of which is to collect and make available data and samples from 250,000 Swedes. The cohort is a national cohort, with the 6 Swedish universities with medical faculties involved in the governance, and Karolinska Institutet as the host organisation. 

LifeGene participants respond to an extensive, web-based questionnaire covering a wide range of health and health related measures, symptoms, lifestyle and environmental exposures. At a LifeGene test center, participants perform a number of physical tests (anthropometric measures, blood pressure, spirometry, bioimpedance) and provide blood and urine samples. Recruitment is either through postal contact of adults age 18-50 in areas close to LifeGene test centers (thus far in Alingsås, Stockholm, and Umeå), by being invited to participate by a LifeGene participant, or by spontaneous self-registration. Adult participants may invite their children or other household members to participate.
