      <r:Content xml:lang="sv">Syftet med  Stockholms Diabetes Preventiva Program (SDPP) är att studera betydelsen av ärftliga, individuella och miljöbetingade bestämningsfaktorer för nedsatt glukostolerans, diabetes och relaterad sjuklighet så som övervikt/fetma och högt blodtryck samt konsekvenser.

Stockholms diabetespreventiva program började med en befolkningsbaserad baslinje undersökning av 3 128 män år 1992 till 1994 och 4 821 kvinnor år 1996 till 1998 (35–56 år gamla) i fem kommuner i Stockholms län (Värmdö, Upplands Väsby, Sigtuna, Tyresö och Upplands-Bro).  En uppföljning genomfördes av 76,2 procent av männen och 69,1 procent av kvinnorna ca tio år senare. År 2014, 20 år efter baslinjeundersökningen påbörjades den andra uppföljningen där alla som deltog i baslinjen bjöds in. 

Projektet består av en diabetesscreening och en omfattande enkät. Dessutom tas blodprover för framtida analyser till en biobank. Studien är anpassad för att kunna studera ärftlighet och därför ingår alla med minst en förstagradssläkting eller två andragradssläkting med diabetes. Även de som helt saknar diabetes i familjen är översamplade.</r:Content>
      <r:Content xml:lang="en">The objective of SDPP is to study the importance of hereditary, individual and environmental determinants of impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes and related morbidity like obesity and high blood pressure as well as consequences.

Stockholm Diabetes Prevention Programme is a population based survey in which 3128 men and 4821 women (between the ages 35-56) from five municipalities of Stockholm County Council were screened between the years 1992-1998.  A follow up study was conducted about 10 years later where 76,2 percentage of the men and 69,1 percentage of women responded. 2014 about 20 years after the baseline a new follow up study started and all participants from the baseline were invited. 

For the participants a screening occasion includes an oral glucose tolerance test and an extensive questionnaire. The study is focusing on diabetes heredity and therefore includes all individuals with at least one first, or two second grade relatives with diabetes. Those without any diabetes in the family are also over-sampled.</r:Content>
