      <r:Content xml:lang="sv">BEDA-studien är en studie av kardiovaskulär sjukdom hos kvinnor som har genomförts av Sektionen för Preventiv Kardiologi, Göteborgs Universitet. Bakgrunden är att hjärt-kärlsjukdom och diabetes är viktiga och vanliga orsaker till för tidig död hos såväl kvinnor som män. Men riskfaktorer för hjärt-kärlsjukdom har inte varit lika väl kartlagda hos kvinnor som hos män.  

BEDA-studien är en kohort omfattande 1413 göteborgskvinnor födda 1915-1939. Den första undersökningen ägde rum mellan november 1979 och februari 1981. Av de inviterade deltog 1413 kvinnor (81%). 

En ny undersökningsomgång genomfördes 1997. Av 1201 inviterade kvinnor deltog 875 (73%). Deltagarna fick båda gånger svara på ett stort antal frågor angående hälsa, ärftlighet, levnadssituation mm och de undergick också en noggrann hälsoundersökning. Dessa kvinnor har sedan följts upp genom bl a journalinsamling, sjukhusdiagnosregister och dödsorsaksintyg.  Materialet har använts både longitudinellt och som kontrollgrupper i olika fall-kontrollstudier.

      <r:Content xml:lang="en">The BEDA study is a study of cardiovascular disease in women, administered by the Section for Preventive Cardiology, University of Gothenburg. The background is that coronary heart disease and diabetes are important and common reasons for too early death in both women and men, but risk factors for coronary heart disease has not been so well described in women.  

Of those invited, 1413 women (81%) were investigated between November 1979 and February 1981. A new examination took place in 1997. Of 1201 invited women, 875 (73%) participated. The procedures for the second screening were similar to those of the first examination. The material has been used in both longitudinal analyses and as control groups in different case-control studies.
