      <r:Content xml:lang="sv">Syftet med undersökningen var att försöka klarlägga den bild av omvärlden som förmedlats av dagspressen i Sverige vid olika tidpunkter. Då tidningarna som medium vänder sig till ett massauditorium och försöker tillgodose detta auditoriums intressen kan det också antagas att massmedias bild av omvärlden i någon mån svarar mot auditoriets världsbild vid olika tidpunkter. Det bedömdes som lämpligt att välja ut ett sample av 6 perioder representerande var sitt kalenderår.
Den undersökningsmetod som valts för VB-projektet är systematisk innehållsanalys. Som analysenhet har valts enskild tidningsartikel. Visst enhetligt material på samma sida behandlas dock som en analysenhet. Exempelvis klumpas alla annonser på samma sida till en enhet. Nöjesnytt, sportnytt och insändare är andra exempel.
Mätenhet är spaltcentimeter. Minimigränsen för en analysenhet är tre centimeter. Det innebär att artiklar som är mindre än tre spaltcentimeter utelämnats. Undersökningsmaterialet består av tidningarnas ordinarie innehåll. Extrabilagor eller specialbilagor ingår ej.</r:Content>
      <r:Content xml:lang="en">The survey is an attempt to clarify the picture of the rest of the world supplied by the Swedish press at different points of time. While the daily press as media turns toward a mass auditorium and tries to meet the demands of this auditorium it is assumed that the idea of the world supplied by mass media to some extent corresponds with the auditorium´s idea of the world at different points of time. It was judged as appropriate to choose a sample of six periods each representing a calendar year. The register includes information about actor, issue, object for the activity mentioned, perspective on the object, arena of the activity and arena affected. Furthermore there are a number of more conventional classifications.</r:Content>
