      <title>Interviews with doctoral students and researchers about research data management and needs of e-infrastructure</title>
      <description>The data consist of 40 interviews collected from May 2025 to October 2025 along with a quantitative summary of interviewees reported satisfaction in different data management phases. The data are part of the project KAFFE (Mapping Capabilities in the Research E-Infrastructure Systems), which ran from November 2024 to November 2025. The interviews were conducted at seven higher education institutions by a number of interviewers. PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, junior researchers, and senior researchers were interviewed within the disciplines of humanities, artistic research, medicine and health, natural science, social science, technical sciences, and agricultural science. The interviews ranged from 21 to 88 minutes in length.

The interviews were recorded using the tools Zoom or Teams. The audio files were then transcribed into text using KB Whisper. The text files were reviewed and corrected in two stages: first by the interviewer, and then by a group within the Swedish National Data Service. The final files are in PDF/A format.</description>

      <title>Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg (PPSW) - Psychiatric Sub-Studies</title>
      <description>This data description concerns the psychiatric sub-studies of the Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg (PPSW).

PPSW is a multidisciplinary longitudinal study, examining representative samples of women living in Gothenburg, Sweden. 

The study comprises a psychiatric interview, physical examination, psychological tests, blood samples with extensive laboratory analysis and a close informant interview. It also includes collecting data related to socioeconomic status, marital status, living conditions, housing situation, education, religion, hobbies, and life events. Neurobiological investigations in the form of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain and spinal puncture and analysis of brain-spinal fluid are also carried out. Medical records from all major hospitals, geriatric and psychiatric institutions and outpatient clinics in Gothenburg are evaluated to find cases of psychiatric and somatic diseases. Dementia, depression, psychotic disorders, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are diagnosed according to DSM-III-R and DSM-IV. Somatic diseases are classified according to established criteria.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was initially to investigate anemia and health factors related to menopause, but has later also included examination of determinants among middle age women that have importance for the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, dementia and other mental illness in high age.

The data description only concerns the psychiatric sub-studies of the PPSW cohort from the H70 studies. To view cohorts, variables and request data, follow the links to the NEAR portal.

The PPSW started in 1968 with the recruitment of 1 467 women between the ages of 38 and 60 years. Five different birth cohorts of women born in 1908, 1914, 1918, 1922 and 1930 were followed-up in 1974‒75, 1981‒82, 1992‒93, 2000‒02, 2005‒06, 2009‒11, 2015‒16, 2018‒19, and re-examinations are planned for 2021.

      <title>Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe-Sweden (SHARE-Sweden)</title>
      <description>SHARE (Survey of Health Ageing and Retirement in Europe) is a multidisciplinary, cross-national and longitudinal survey measuring how health, economic and social living conditions of Europeans aged 50+ is changing over time. SHARE is a major source for ageing research in Europe and throughout the world, including anonymised longitudinal and cross-sectional data of more than 140.000 individuals over the age of 50. SHARE is based on individual, computer-aided personal interviews and six waves have been carried out so far. Currently SHARE includes 28 countries, including Sweden.

      <title>Origin of Variances in the Oldest-Old: Octogenarian Twins (OCTO-Twin) Wave 1</title>
      <description>The OCTO-Twin Study aims to investigate the etiology of individual differences among twin-pairs age 80 and older, on a range of domains including health and functional capacity, cognitive functioning, psychological well-being, personality and personal control. In the study, twin pairs were withdrawn from the Swedish Twin Registry. At the first wave, the twins had to be born 1913 or earlier and both partners in the pair had to accept participation. At baseline in 1991-94, 351 twin pairs (149 monozygotic and 202 like-sex dizygotic pairs) were investigated (mean age: 83.6 years and 67% were female). The two-year longitudinal follow-ups were conducted on all twins who were alive and agreed to participate. Data have been collected at five waves over a total of eight years. 

The in-person testing included interviews, a health examination including blood pressure and lung function, blood sampling, and tests on functional capacity, cognitive abilities, and memory.

• The participants were examined as follows: physical and mental health status; selected personality dimensions; activities of daily living; health-related behaviors of smoking, alcohol consumption and legal drug use; early rearing environment, and the adult working, family and social environments. 

• Physical measures included: blood pressure, pulse, anthropometric measures, lung function, grip strength, physical performances measures for upper and lower body functional activity, and assessment of activities of daily living measures (e.g. turn key in lock, pour a glass of water). Fasting blood and morning urine samples were also collected.

• The cognitive battery was designed to represent the domains of crystallized and fluid intelligence and memory. The battery included the Mini-Mental Status Examinations (MMSE); Information test, Synonyms test, Analogies test, Figure logic test, Block design test, Digit span (Forward and Backward) test, Picture memory test, Symbol Digit test. Dementia diagnoses have been assigned following assessment of cognitive performance and review of medical records giving a consensus diagnosis.

      <title>Ageing in Women and Men: A Longitudinal Study of Gender Differences in Health Behaviour and Health among Elderly (GENDER)</title>
      <description>The Longitudinal Study of Gender Differences in Health Behaviour and Health among Elderly (GENDER) is a study of unlike-sex twin pairs born between 1906 and 1925 (Gold et al., 2002). 

Sub-studies:
• A survey concerning health and health behaviors was mailed in 1994 with responses from 1210 twins from 605 pairs where both responded. Mean age at baseline assessment was 74.43 years (SD 4.28) and all were Caucasians. 
• A baseline in-person evaluation of 498 twins from 249 pairs between 70 and 80 years of age was undertaken between 1995 and 1997, and included an interview and tests of cognitive and physical functioning.
• Two additional in-person waves followed at four-year intervals (1999-2001 and 2003-2005). 
• Finally, a second survey was mailed in 2007 to all living twins who participated in the first mailed survey.

The main interest of the study was gender differences in health and health behaviors in old age. 

Questions about subjective health, use of healthcare, and behaviors and attitudes related to health, perceived ADL capacity, personality and social networks, formal and informal care etc. are available. Measures of grip-strength, vital capacity, blood pressure, a number of exercises related to muscle strength and balance, and cognitive functions are available. Blood values and genotyping are also available.</description>

      <title>SALT - Screening Across the Lifespan Twin Study</title>
      <description>The SALT study was initiated in 1998 and is a sub-study of the Swedish Twin Registry (STR) where a complete screening of all twins born 1958 or earlier were included (n=44 919). There are three sub-studies of the SALT study; 1) HARMONY (1998-2003), where SALT participants who were 65 years or above were screened for dementia. All twins who screened positive together with their co-twins, as well as cognitively intact controls went through a clinical examination (n=1 557); 2) TwinGene (2004-2008) where biological samples were collected from a subset of the SALT population (n=12 614); 3) SALTY (2009-2010), which included another subset of twins from the SALT study who were born between 1943 and 1958 (n=11 372). Data have been collected at three waves over a total of ten years for the older cohort (included in HARMONY) and 12 years for the younger cohort (included in SALTY). 


The purpose of the SALT study was to screen all twins in Sweden born 1958 or earlier for the most common complex diseases, regardless of the status of their twin partner. 

•	In the SALT study, computer assisted telephone interviews collected information on twin and family status, height, weight, education, occupation, use of alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine, common illnesses, medications, and gender- and age-specific questions. Information about maternal and birth characteristics were also retrieved from the participants' birth records.

•	In HARMONY, a cognitive screening was based on the twin’s performance on the TELE cognitive screening instrument, which incorporates the ten-item mental status questionnaire (MSQ), two other cognitive domains, and questions about health and daily functioning. For individuals who performed poorly on the TELE, an informant was interviewed with the Blessed Dementia Rating Scale (BDRS), with questions about how much the twin’s cognitive status interfered with their daily functioning.

•	HARMONY twins suspected of dementia, their co-twins, and a control sample were referred for a clinical workup. This included a complete medical history, including use of prescription and non-prescription medications, as well as the onset and sequence of memory and cognitive symptoms, collected through medical records review and interviews with the participant and an informant. Participants also underwent an assessment conducted by a nurse and a physician, which included a physical and neurological examination, a neuropsychological assessment, and referral for neuroimaging. Dementia diagnosis, including differential diagnosis, was then set at a multidisciplinary conference.

•	The primary aim of the TwinGene project was to enhance the SALT study with biological specimens. Participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire about common diseases and to contact their local healthcare facility for health checkup and blood sample collection.

•	In the SALTY project, data collection consisted of an extensive self-reported paper-questionnaire and an internet-based investigation that included questionnaires on musical experience, tendency to experience psychological flow and creative achievement, as well as tests of cognitive and motor performance. In addition, saliva was collected for DNA extraction.

The SALT study was initiated in 1998, with the purpose of screening all twins in Sweden born before 1958 for most common complex diseases, regardless of the status of their twin partner. The extensive interview included questions about illnesses and health, medication use, occupation, education, and lifestyle factors.
