3D-data Early Christian grave monuments in Östergötland and Småland</title>
      <description>3D-scans of runestones and Early Christian grave monuments from Östergötland and Småland.

This dataset includes 3D-models of 11th century Early Christian grave monuments 3D-scanned for research. The study focussed on analysis of the runic inscriptions and ornament, therefor only the inscription surfaces have been scanned.

The data was collected within a study included in the thesis project by Cecilia Ljung. Results of analysis have been published by Cecilia Ljung in her doctiral thesis "Under runristad häll: Tidigkristna gravmonument i 1000-talets Sverige" (2016, pp. 82-83) (see related publications).

The signum Ög + number is an ID-code used in the record of runic inscriptions kept by Runverket at the Swedish National Heritage Board. The signum originates in the corpus publication Sveriges runinskrifter and other publications and reports, and is used in most publications and web-based resources. It is the key to find further references on a specific runic inscription and the object carrying it.

The sigla have been complemented by other identifiers, i.e. names and catalogue numbers in Ljung 2016.

      <description>3D-scans of all preserved runestones in Hälsingland. This dataset includes 3D-models of 11th century runestones 3D-scanned for documentation and analysis at Runverket (the runic research group) at the Swedish National Heritage Board.

The signum Hs + number is an ID-code used in the record of runic inscriptions kept by Runverket at the Swedish National Heritage Board. The signum is used in most publications and web-based resources. It is the key to find further references on a specific runic inscription and the object carrying it.

The 3D-scanning was made by Henrik Zedig, Länsstyrelsen Västra Götaland, with a handheld laser scanner HandySCAN BLACK ELITE (blue laser) from Creaform with a resolution of 0.40 mm. The data is here provided as STL-files. 

Noice has been reduced by using the function Thin in Zeiss INSPECT Optical 3D at a threshold level of 0.02-0.03 mm.

Due to its size, the runestone Hs 10 is divided into six sections.

The runestone Hs 14 is scanned twice, first in the round and secondly focussing on the runic inscription using a higher resolution.</description>

The study focussed on analysis of the runic inscriptions and ornament, therefor only the inscription surfaces have been scanned. Results of analysis have been published in the article "Runstenar och eskilstunakistor i Västergötland: Ett exempel på förändrad mobilitet" (English summary) in the journal Futhark: International Journal of Runic Studies (Futhark 2012, pp. 145-176; see related publications).

The signum Vg + number is an ID-code used in the record of runic inscriptions kept by Runverket at the Swedish National Heritage Board. The signum originates in the corpus publication Sveriges runinskrifter and other publications and reports, and is used in most publications and web-based resources. It is the key to find further references on a specific runic inscription and the object carrying it.

As the runic sigla may cover several stones, eg. various fragments of Early Christian grave monuments, the sigla have been complemented by other identifiers (i.e. catalogue numbers in Ljung 2016, Lundberg 1997).

      <description>3D-scans of runestones signed by Asmund Karasun (Åsmund Kåresson). This dataset includes 3D-models of 11th century runestones 3D-scanned for a study within the research project Runristandets dynamik (2009-2014). The project focussed on analysis of the runic inscriptions and ornament, therefor only the inscription surfaces have been scanned. For some stones, this is the only option as they are leaning against, or inserted into, church walls. Results of analysis have been published in the article "Åsmund Kåresson - en sällskaplig runristare" (English summary) in the journal Situne Dei (Situne Dei 2016, p. 26-39; see related publications).
