Interactive effects of drought and shading on boreal stream metabolism and algal biomass in experimental mesocosms
https://doi.org/10.5878/fk59-8024
This dataset was collected and used in the article "Interactive effects of drought and shading on boreal stream metabolism and algal biomass in experimental mesocosms." The data include benthic chl-a and modeled oxygen data from experimental channels at the Svartberget Research Station, all of which have been modeled to calculate gross primary production and respiration. This manuscript is part of a larger project aimed at evaluating how modern forestry practices affect ecological functions in headwaters (small streams). This specific dataset was collected to investigate whether negative effects of clear-cutting on streams, such as altered light conditions, interact with extreme weather events such as drought.

Description of the mode of collection:
Syregasconcentration mättes på botten av de experimentella rännorna vid Svartbergets forskningsstation med miniDOT-loggers (Precision Measurement Engineering Inc., USA). Syredata registrerades med 10 minuters intervall och användes senare för modellering av total primärproduktion och ekosystemandning. De experimentella rännorna utsattes för olika behandlingar av ljus och torka. Varje ränna mättes 10 gånger per vecka under två månader.

miniDOT
Description of the instrument:
The miniDOT Logger from Precision Measurement Engineering Inc. is a fully submersible device designed to measure dissolved oxygen and temperature in aquatic environments. It utilizes an optical sensor (optode) that employs fluorescence quenching to determine oxygen concentrations, and records data onto an internal microSD card.

BentoTorch
Description of the instrument:
The BenthoTorch is a handheld instrument that analyses chl-α pigments in-situ by fluorescence. The BenthoTorch measures an area of 1.1 cm2 and we systematically measured each channel once per week using established transects from top to bottom with ten measurements per channel and sampling occasion. The BenthoTorch enables frequent and non-destructive estimates of chl-α, which we could not accomplish using ceramic tiles or other sub-sampling of the channel bottom.
