The Swedish Gallup Institute’s surveys from 1942-1956

The material is part of SND's collection of the Swedish Gallup Institute's surveys from 1942 to 1956. For more information plus the ability to search for studies and questions, see the collection webpage: https://snd.gu.se/en/gallupOpens in a new tab The Gallup Institute surveys provide a good overview of the state of Swedish public opinion during the 1940s and 1950s, an interesting time where wartime and rationing gave way to hope and optimism. In total, the material includes approximately 550 questionnaires and 500 bound or stapled reports, as well as associated documentation such as coding forms and templates for press releases. The surveys were carried out for a variety of clients, including HSB, AB Volvo Göteborg and Dagens Nyheter. The reports contain information such as purpose and sample. The results are presented in tabular form divided by gender, age group, social group affiliation and urban/rural area. The accompanying questionnaires contain exact question formulations. The collection was a gift to SND, with a view to making it available to the Swedish research community. Digitisation was made possible through funding from Riksbanken's Jubileumsfond. Digitisation and post-processing of the printed copies were carried out by Digital Services at the Gothenburg University Library.
