Description of the mode of collection:
Differently aged needles and leaves were sampled in the field in the Gothenburg Botanical Garden and its nearby arboretum. The field sampling was made on 21 September for the two evergreen broadleaved species and on 22 September 2020 for the conifers. In the laboratory the differently aged leaves and needles were separated, the samples dried and ground and set to an analytical laboratory for the analysis of the mercury concentration using ICP-MS. Three individuals of each of the four species were sampled and from each tree at least three branches were used in the sampling. For the conifers also the branch segments to which needles of different ages were attached were sampled and analyzed.
