Data for "Pancreatic α-cell dysfunction associated with equine insulin dysregulation", published in Equine Veterinary Journal (EVJ)
https://doi.org/10.5878/et2s-3r68
Data in this file were derived from a cross-sectional experimental study involving healthy horses (NIR; n = 19) and horses previously diagnosed with insulin dysregulation (ID; n = 19). All horses underwent a 180-minute, seven-sample oral sugar test. Primary endpoints included group comparison (ID vs NIR) of pancreatic α-cell indices (Fasting glucagon and AUC glucagon). The data file consists of 17 columns and 38 rows.

Description of study design:
All horses underwent a 180-minute, seven-sample oral sugar test. Blood samples were analysed for concentrations of glucose, insulin and glucagon.
Sampling procedure:
Description of sampling:
Purposive sampling. Horses and ponies were enrolled in the study based on results from a single-sample oral sugar test performed in the field, using insulin concentrations > 45 µIU/mL measured in blood 60 to 90 min after oral sugar administration as a diagnostic cut-off for ID.
