Swedish journalist 1995
https://doi.org/10.5878/002203
Journalist 1995 is based on two predecessors: Journalist 1989 and Journalist 1994. A common aim of the surveys is to give a picture of Swedish journalists´ in regard of their view of the professional role of journalists, press ethics and professional ethics, mass media and the community, as well as to give background characteristics such as the composition regarding age and gender, education, terms of employment, work place etc.
The emphasis of the surveys has varied: in 1989 it was on the journalists' attitudes towards their own professional role and professional ethics; the survey of 1994 introduced new areas regarding politics and the community as well as questions related to the trade union.
Journalist 1995 presented a new focus: the journalists' view of diversity and media concentration among Swedish mass media. The questionnaire was divided into six blocks: work, work environment and ethics; media concentration and diversity; politics, the community and environment; media habits; the paper 'Journalisten'; and background.
Purpose:
The purpose of the study is to investigate how Swedish journalists perceive themselves and society, their professional role and work situation, the problems related to their code of professional ethics and the developments in the media sector.
