The Regional Western Sweden SOM Survey 1998

Western SOM has been conducted yearly since 1992, but was initially limited to residents of Gothenburg and its surrounding municipalities. In 1998, the survey was extended to include the entire Västra Götaland County plus the municipality of Kungsbacka. The purpose of the regional surveys is to enable SOM researchers to study attitudes and behaviour linked to local and regional issues. They emphasise public services and media, although many of the questions are identical with those used in National SOM in order to make the answers comparable both between the regions and with Sweden at large. Western SOM 1998 has been carried out as two parallel surveys. One corresponds to previous years Western SOM and includes a random sample of 2,900 people aged 15-80 years residing in Gothenburg or any of the twelve surrounding municipalities. The second part of the West covering a similar sample of people living in the parts of Västra Götaland outside the Gothenburg region.

Urvalen för de båda delundersökningarna är lika stora men det bor fler 15 till 80-åringar i göteborgsregionen än det gör i resten av undersökningsområdet (VGE). Det finns därför två viktvariabler i datafilen. De bör användas när materialet analyseras i sin helhet, det vill säga för att dra slutsatser om de boende i Västra Götaland (viktvg) eller Västsverige (viktvs). Vikterna tar endast hänsyn till skillnaderna i urvalen - inte skillnader i svarsbenägenhet. Vid analyser som endast omfattar ett av de båda formulären ska viktvariabeln inte användas.
