Red List work 2025: All red-listed taxa as well as all taxa in the categories Least Concerned (LC), Not Evaluated (NE) and Not Applicable (NA)
https://doi.org/10.5878/ffrv-6x57
The Swedish Red List is compiled by the Swedish Species Information Centre (SLU Artdatabanken) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences as part of the environmental monitoring and assessment programme Biodiversity. It includes assessments of the extinction risk of species in Sweden. The Swedish Red List 2025 was published on 24 March 2026 and is the sixth Swedish Red List to use the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List categories and criteria.
During the Red List assessment process, the basis for the assessments varies greatly between different species. Some species groups, such as birds and many mammals and fish, are covered by thorough environmental monitoring with long time series of data. However, for most other species groups, the level of knowledge is considerably more limited, which is taken into account in the Red List assessment methodology. To better understand the assessments, it may be helpful to read Manual och riktlinjer för rödlistning i Sverige 2025 (https://res.slu.se/id/publ/145574Opens in a new tab).
This dataset consists of all taxa that were included in the 2025 Red List assessments, as well as all taxa in the categories Not Evaluated (NE) and Not Applicable (NA). Taxa in any of the following categories: Regionally Extinct (RE), Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN), Vulnerable (VU), Near Threatened (NT) or Data Deficient (DD) are red-listed. Taxa that are assessed but do not meet the criteria for being red-listed are assigned the category Least Concerned (LC). Taxa in the categories Not Evaluated (NE) and Not Applicable (NA) have not been assessed according to the red-listing criteria.
The dataset consists of two different data files that are available as separate CSV files or as a single Excel file with multiple sheets.
The data file/sheet ”Rodlistearbete_2025” contains all taxa that were included in the 2025 Red List assessments, as well as all taxa in the categories Not Evaluated (NE) and Not Applicable (NA). In addition to red-list category, this dataset includes, where relevant, the criteria leading to the red-list category and supporting documentation, as well as information about taxonomic affinity, occurrence in Sweden and immigration history. The data file/sheet contains all included taxa regardless of taxon category, i.e. it includes for example subspecies and apomictic species. The data file/sheet consists of 80 611 rows and 18 columns.
The data file/sheet ”Ekologiska_variabler” contains all species that were included in the 2025 Red List assessments (i.e. red-listed species as well as all species in the LC category), along with information about their associated landscape types and biotopes. The data file/sheet does not include any taxon categories other than species. The data file/sheet consists of 23 103 rows and 47 columns.
This dataset includes, regarding ecological variables, only information on species’ associations with landscape types and biotopes. For an overview of the negative impact factors affecting Red Listed species, as well as their regional occurrence and their associations with substrates, refer to the dataset "The Swedish Red List 2025 – including ecological variables" at the Swedish National Data Service (https://doi.org/10.5878/2x1z-jm10Opens in a new tab).
