GIS-material for the archaeological project: Östra Malmskogen - Local plan for industrial estate
The information in the abstract is translated from the archaeological report: By request of the County Administrative Board and due to local planning, the Swedish National Heritage Board's Contract Archaeology Service, UV Öst, has performed a desk-based assessment and a field evaluation by Malmskogen, Rystad parish in the city and municipality of Linköping in April 2004. The local plan might affect several areas with known ancient monuments and the purpose was thus to determine whether there were any remains in the development area in question. The evaluations showed that there are traces of prehistoric and historical activity within the development area, but due to weather conditions and waterlogged fields it was not possible to completely delimit all archaeological remains. Purpose: The information in the purpose is translated from the archaeological report: The purpose of the archaeological assessment was mainly to see to that no archaeological remains were damaged by the planned development. The aim was also to elucidate the limits of the topographically estimated archaeological sites within each survey area and to point out areas with no archaeological remains. The purpose of the field evaluation was to determine the type, intensity and extent of the archaeological remains and to document and, if possible, date the features and artefacts. The ZIP file consist of GIS files and an Access database with information about trenches, features, finds and other metadata about the archaeological survey.
