User guide

In the Researchdata.se catalogue, you can search research data from all research fields. You can use filters to refine your search results. As all resources in the catalogue don't contain complete metadata, so a filter search may not provide a definitive list of search results.

Language

Many resources are described in both Swedish and English. If a translation is missing, the metadata are displayed in the available language. One language version may contain more detailed metadata than the other, and in some cases, the catalogue entry specifies which language holds the most detailed information.

You can change the website language in the upper right corner.

Search for data

Search for data by entering keywords in the search field. You can search using both Swedish and English terms; regardless of your language settings, you will receive the same results. The number of search results is displayed at the top. Search results can be sorted by Relevance, Published date, Modified date, and title (A-Ö/Ö-A). You can also choose how many results should be displayed per page.

Advanced search:

  • water temperature is an AND search, returning results containing both "water" and "temperature".
  • water | temperature is an OR search, returning results containing either "water" or "temperature".
  • - before a word or phrase excludes it from the search results.
  • * acts as a wildcard, e.g., election* finds "election study", "election results", "elections". Prefix searches are always performed in the title field.
  • use quotation marks to search for an exact phrase, e.g., "reading newspapers".
  • Proximity search: "reading newspapers"~10 means "reading" and "newspapers" must appear within ten words of each other.
  • Fuzzy search: Add ~N after a word, where N determines fuzziness, e.g., newspaper~5
  • Group expressions with parentheses: reads + (newspaper | book).

Search filters

It is possible to refine searches using filters. Note that not all datasets in the catalogue contain metadata that match the available filters.

Subject
Research subject according to the Swedish standard classification of research subjects, Svensk standard för indelning av forskningsämnenOpens in a new tab. Assigned to all datasets in the catalogue.

Data format/data structure
Describes the format/structure of the dataset (e.g., numeric, text, video). This does not refer to file formats. Controlled vocabulary from DDIOpens in a new tab.

Geographic location
The geographical area relevant to the data, recorded according to GeoNamesOpens in a new tab.

Collection
Groups of datasets. Only data shared via DORIS can be part of collections.

Research principal
The responsible research organization for the data.

Accessibility level
Indicates whether data are available with open access or restricted access.

Source repository
The original repository or source of the dataset. Filtering and sorting within this category is possible. The original source is also displayed as an icon on the landing page/catalogue entry, alongside the research principal.

Data source
Specifies the origin of the data, such as a population group or register. Filtering and sorting within this category is possible. Controlled vocabulary from DDIOpens in a new tab.

Language
The primary language of the dataset, specified according to ISO 639-3.

Sampling procedure
The sampling procedure(s) used. Filtering and sorting within this category is possible. Controlled vocabulary from DDIOpens in a new tab.

Unit of analysis
The unit(s) described or analyzed in the dataset, e.g., individual or geographic unit. Controlled vocabulary from DDIOpens in a new tab.

Time method
Specifies how data collection is designed over time.

Type of remains
Allows filtering by type of remains, adapted for archaeological data. Filtering and sorting within this category is possible.

Archaeological investigation type
Allows filtering by investigation types for archaeological data. Filtering and sorting within this category is possible.

Time period investigated
Specifies the time period(s) the data describes. This may differ from when the data were collected. Time is recorded according to ISO-8601.

Era
The historical period described in the data, selectable by start and end era.

Map search

By searching for datasets using the map, you can find data based on geographical position. Note that not all datasets contain geographical metadata that enable map searches.

Catalogue entry

Catalogue entries for datasets provide an overview of the data in the form of machine-readable metadata. The information includes:

  • PID for the dataset
  • Any licence for the data
  • Creator/principal investigators of the dataset
  • Research principal
  • A description of the data, geographical information, collection method, etc.
  • Keywords and subject classifications
  • Links to related publications and other resources
  • Administrative information

Data that are shared with open access via DORIS are available for direct download from the catalogue entry. For other datasets, a link is provided to the location of the dataset, or there is information on how to access it.

Each catalogue entry includes a suggested citation format for the dataset. Users can switch between different citation formats and copy or download the citation.

Fields marked in grey blue are clickable and generate a new search in the catalogue. Fields marked with an arrow function as links.
